Gradesetter

Primary responsibility is to monitor achievement of required grade on projects.  Also serves as back-up for foreman in supervising and coordinating while working with grading construction crews on projects consisting of major sitework and miscellaneous other construction work. Emphasis for the position will be in assisting the foreman in meeting the project quality and production requirements to satisfy customer expectations while operating within budget allowances. Projects will include new construction and removal and replacement projects.

 

Education Requirements: High school diploma preferable.

 

Experience Requirements:  Five (5) or more years of construction experience encompassing major sitework, utilities and strong grading background. Supervision of crew experience preferable.          

 

Desired Knowledge and/or Skills:  Technical skill to ascertain a quality, cost-effective product.  Effective leader with strong goal setting, planning, communication (English) and teamwork skills.  Ability to think ahead, anticipate potential situations and provide effective solutions to conflicts that arise during the course of business.  Knowledge of equipment.  Familiarity with local site conditions, agency standards, local vendors and subcontractors.  Knowledge of OSHA regulations and First Aid skills.  Ability to read and interpret plans and documents.  Ability to read stakes.  Knowledge of slopes and lasers.

Essential Job Functions: Assisting with supervising and coordinating while working on a construction crew. Responsible for crews’ productivity including cost tracking, quality and safety during foreman’s absence from the job site.  Dig, shovel, mix, pour, spread

and level dirt, gravel, concrete, asphalt and other materials.  Lift, carry, and hold building materials, tools, and supplies.  Clean tools, equipment, materials and work areas.  Ability to identify existing underground utility markers. Valid driver’s license and ability to drive foreman’s truck to and from job sites as necessary.  Prepare foreman’s reports and Daily Extra Work Reports to accurately code time and equipment utilization to the proper job and phase as required. Meet with field inspectors to obtain approved quantities and written authorization for T&M work and coordinate testing and inspections when necessary.  Work safely and maintain a safe workplace to comply with OSHA and other regulatory agencies.  Notify Safety Officer and submit written reports of accidents.   Interact well with other employees and customers. 

 

Physical Demands: Frequent climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching,

handling, fingering, near acuity, depth perception and field of vision.  Occasional balancing, crawling, talking, hearing, far acuity and color vision.  Very heavy work strength rating.
