Analyze sites, blueprints, specifications, proposals and other documents to facilitate the preparation of accurate cost estimates. Select and prepare a list of potential suppliers and sub-contractors. Prepare well-defined scope of work summaries for use by our field forces and customers. Review scope summaries with the customer prior to bid to ensure our compliance with their expectations. Prepare job cost accounting budgets for management purposes. Communicate details of projects to field forces by scheduling and conducting thorough and effective Project Hand-off Meetings. Review all bids with the Estimating Manager prior to bid.
Performance Objectives:
Annual procurement volume is expected to range from $5,000,000.00 + (junior level) to $15,000,000.00 + (senior level) or as otherwise determined by management.
Education Requirements: A BS Degree in Construction Management or Engineering is preferred.
Experience Requirements: Introductory-Three (3) years to Senior-Five (5) or more years of construction estimating experience encompassing sitework, underground utilities and asphalt paving.

Desired Knowledge and/or Skills: Construction methodologies, techniques, principles, and processes. Local soils, building codes, water agency and design requirements. Computers and computerized estimating programs. Estimating knowledge and skill. Ability to read/interpret documents and contracts. Knowledge of equipment production/crew production rates. Familiarity with local vendors and subcontractors. Excellent presentation, marketing and communication skills.
Essential Job Functions:
Develop creative, cost-effective approaches to constructing projects. Prepare accurate cost estimates consistent with all available bid documents (specs, plans, bid form, soils investigation, schedule of values, etc). Consult with field personnel during the bid process for the purpose of staying current with operational procedures and productivity rates. Communicate with client in order to develop a clear scope of work, exclusions and qualifications. Solicit and analyze vendor and sub-contractor quotations. Stay current with construction projects and their performance (quality, productivity and profitability). Perform responsible, professional and ethical project buy-outs to include the preparation and issuance of sub-contracts and purchase orders. Maintain awareness of project schedule requirements. Review and negotiate project specific contract terms and conditions. Prepare hand-off documents and hold hand-off meetings. Work in a safe manner, wear appropriate safety gear and report any unsafe practices observed in the field to the supervisor.
Physical Demands: Tour and examine unimproved building sites. Frequent reaching, handling, fingering, talking, hearing and near acuity. Light work strength rating.
